Have questions on backup medium and other services. Years back I was seeing that Cloud or offsite backup services seemed to always have problems when the data was restored from a backup service, cloud, NAS, other FTP services. Is that still a problem when restoring from these services? Is it still suggested for the customer to have a physical medium in house? Any recommendations appreciated. My customers, some are happy with Raid, others want the physical medium but with costs getting where they are they questioning options.

I'm not sure you can generalize all the backup services as reliable or not and you certainly shouldn't trust your backup decision based on a show of hands. Hopefully other Resource Center community members will share specific services and whether they were/are able to restore from the backups as well as other insights such as costs, ease of use, reliability, etc..

At the end of the day, whatever backup method you use, make sure you can recover from it by restoring the files you backup. Better to know you can trust it under controlled situations than to find out too late that you can't restore your files when the originals are damaged.

Me personally, I want a backup solution that is on my side of the firewall. I'm not willing to trust backing up sensitive information to the cloud just yet, even if it's encrypted. But that's me.
